Position: German Teacher

Biography:

Solvejg Rogers was born and raised in Germany. She attended the University of Hamburg where she earned a Masters in Education, Russian, and Sociology. “Frau” Rogers worked in different educational settings spanning from adult education, special education, and ESL to working in German immersion schools in Russia and Latvia. She also lived and worked as a journalist in Russia. In 1999 she married and moved to San Diego and later that same year came to Alaska. In Anchorage she worked as an Adjunct Professor at UAA and later held the position of the Assistant Professor for Russian in the Foreign Language Department. After moving to the Mat-Su Valley and taking some time off to be home with her two boys, she started teaching German at the Mat-Su College. An opportunity led her to teaching Russian, AP World History and later German at Colony High School. Now she is pleased to be part of Birtchtree Charter School and is excited to bring the joy of learning a foreign language to the students at an early age. “Frau” Rogers lives with her husband Tim, her two children Jakob and Ian, their dogs and chickens, near Hatchers Pass. They enjoy spending time together as a family, especially outdoors; boating, travelling, gardening and every so often trying something new.
